MCSO Memorial Fund Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office Memorial Fund (the "Memorial Fund")?
The Memorial Fund provides financial payments to the families of injured or fallen Arizona Law Enforcement Officers. It is an affiliate of the Maricopa County Sheriff's Advisory Posse (the "Advisory Posse") whose membership consists of over 260 Arizona business men and women who raise funds for the benefit of the Memorial Fund. The Advisory Posse also provides assistance for the training and safety of the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office Deputies.
When was the Memorial Fund established?
The Memorial Fund and the Advisory Posse were started in 1998 by Arizona business leaders who were concerned about helping with the immediate financial needs of the families of injured or fallen Arizona Law Enforcement Officers.
How are funds raised for the families?
Funds are raised through the collection of membership fees and annual dues, donations from the general public and through various fundraising events.
Are donations to the Memorial Fund and Advisory Posse tax deductible?
Yes, both organizations are established as public charities under section 501(c)3 of the Internal Revenue Code. The Memorial Fund's Tax ID Number is 20-0111230, and the Advisory Posse's number is 20-4937720.
How much of the funds received actually benefit the families?
All members of the Memorial Fund and Advisory Posse work as volunteers and do not receive compensation from these funds. The funds do have minimal overhead expenses related to fundraising efforts; however, 100% of the funds raised at fundraisers held for the families of the injured or fallen officers are paid directly to the family. The Memorial Fund and Advisory Posse currently have over $750,000 in funds that will be used for future payments to the families of injured or fallen officers.
How can I become a member of the Advisory Posse?
To become a member, you must be sponsored by a current Advisory Posse member. You must complete an application, pass a background check and pay the required fees and annual dues. For additional information, contact Lieutenant Irene Barron-Irby atI_Barron-Irby@MCSO.maricopa.gov.
